Wind Direction: NE
Wind Stength: 16-22 knots
Surf / Sea State: Small chop
Air Temperature: 16C
Sea Temperature: 15C
Weather: Sunny

Distance Covered:

As promised, I was on the water by 7am. Steve actually got to the beach a few minutes before me, but took a little longer to rig but was on the water by 7.30am. Stevebus and Ian were also on the beach around 7am, and Dave and Sarah turned up early too.
AndyW was the last of the windsurfers to arrive, but was also there before 8am, so we all made the most of the tide and the wind which was blowing at around 18 knots to start with so I rigged my 5.7m and my Cross 100.

It was fine to start with, but as the wind picked up it became a bit of a handful so I changed down to a smaller (83ltr) board. Steve was out on his 88ltr board and 6.3m the whole time and a little overpowered for the first half of the session. Everyone else went out on anything between 5 and 6m.

Steve and I sailed across to Aberdovey a couple of times which was nice as you get to experience a range of waterstates, from small chop at Ynyslas, to confused chop over the sandbanks, then dead smooth, glassy water behind the point, a few standing waves next then mad chop over the point and into the channel, followed by mad currents and standing waves in the channel and smooth water and less wind in near the beach at Aberdovey. The downwind speed run back was good as well.

The wind held through to about 10am and then dropped off a little. I changed back up to the bigger board and still kept planing the whole time. As the water flattened off a little I started trying carving 360's. I didn't make any, but I did get quite a way around on a number of occassions and had fun trying anyway.

Everyone had a good day. Ian had a slow start, by first breaking his 6m sail, then being underpowered on a 5.2, but eventually looked as though he was having a good time well powered up once the wind had dropped with a 7m.

AndyW, Dave and Sarah stayed on the water along with the 6 kite-surfers that were out (including Chris and Mike). Steve and I went to the Limit for a big breakfast. The surf was going off, so I got back in the water after breakfast.

It was good to be out on the water with other people around for a change.
